UNI names area students to Fall 2017 semester Dean's List 

The following students from our area are among the students named to the Fall 2017 semester Dean's List at the University of Northern Iowa. To be included on the list, a student must have earned a grade point of 3.

Upper Iowa University announces 2017 Fall Dean's List

Upper Iowa University has announced the Dean's List for the 2017 fall semester. To be honored, a student must have earned a minimum 3.50 grade point average for the semester and be enrolled as a full-time student.

VSHS Speech students do well; many advance to State

These VSHS speech students advanced to the Feb. 3 State speech event. These are the 2018 VSHS large group speech participants. Vinton-Shellsburg Speech participants competed at the Iowa High School Speech Association's District Large Group Conteston Saturday January 20th at Montezuma.

Influenza Activity Increasing in Benton County

Extension Service announces Winter Webcast Series

Animal Hoarding: An introduction

Last week's news of 1,000 or so animals removed from a Vinton residence brought a phrase that is new to many: Animal Hoarding. Yesterday, Benton County Attorney David Thompson filed a legal document entitled a "Petitition For Disposition of Threatened Animals," which is a necessary legal step toward officially removing the animals from the home of Marshall and Barbara (Babs) Galkowski.
