With 5 cases of COVID in Benton County nursing homes, fortunately, they have been contained to just one location, the Vinton Lutheran Home.

Across the state, Iowa nursing homes have been hit hard with the cases hitting 821 cases including residents and staff. Iowa Department of Public Health says that this week (January 21) there were 63 nursing homes in Iowa hit with COVID, roughly 15% of all of the nursing homes in Iowa.

Sandwiched between Linn at 67 and Blackhawk County with 151 cases affecting the older population, both counties have the largest increase in numbers. Iowa nursing homes are able to say that they have some of the highest vaccination rates at 93% of residents being fully vaccinated.
