It's National School Choice Week, and it's a good moment to remember something Iowa parents already know: when it comes to education, moms and dads know their kids best, not Washington bureaucrats.
No two kids learn the same way ¢â‚¬â€I see it with my two boys, who both go to public school and have very different learning styles. Families deserve real options that fit their child ¢â‚¬â„¢s needs, and every child should have world-class education regardless of their parents ¢â‚¬â„¢ income or zip code.
Under Governor Reynolds ¢â‚¬â„¢ strong leadership, Iowa recently joined a new tax credit program ¢â‚¬â€established in the Working Families Tax Cuts ¢â‚¬â€for people who donate to approved K-12 scholarship organizations. These scholarships give families greater flexibility and resources to invest directly in their children ¢â‚¬â„¢s education. This is a huge win for K-12 parents!
And thanks to the Trump Administration, we ¢â‚¬â„¢re taking meaningful steps to return education decisions to the states through the Returning Education to the States Waiver ¢â‚¬â€putting Iowa families back in the driver ¢â‚¬â„¢s seat instead of one-size-fits-all federal mandates. This will save Iowa nearly eight million dollars (yes, you read that correctly) over four years in compliance costs ¢â‚¬â€money that Iowa schools can put directly back into our classrooms.
School choice is about opportunity, flexibility, and empowering families. I ¢â‚¬â„¢m proud of the progress we ¢â‚¬â„¢ve made, and I ¢â‚¬â„¢ll keep fighting to make sure Iowa parents ¢â‚¬â€not the federal government ¢â‚¬â€are in charge of their kids ¢â‚¬â„¢ education.
Trump Accounts Jumpstart the American Dream
Raising a family is more expensive than ever ¢â‚¬â€and Washington should be helping parents plan for the future, not making it harder. That ¢â‚¬â„¢s why we ¢â‚¬â„¢re launching Trump Accounts, a new way to invest in America ¢â‚¬â„¢s next generation from day one. Every child born this year will receive $1,000 in their Trump account, placed in a professionally managed account that grows over time.
Families and employers can contribute annually, and at 18, kids can use the funds or keep letting them grow. If a child receives the maximum $5,000 per year into their Trump account, that account could grow to around $170,000 by age 18.
Open an account by filing IRS Form 4547 with your tax return or after your child is born. I am proud to help champion immediate relief for Iowa parents and long-term opportunity for our children ¢â‚¬â€and we are only getting started!
Trump Accounts launch this summer on July 5th! Learn more here.
