Government : Notice: Board Taking Applications for Boards and Commission Appointments

The Benton County Board of Supervisors is taking applications for various county board and commission appointments for the following year. Benton County appreciates diversity in these appointments and welcomes all applicants at least 18 years of age. Terms and dates of appointments vary and these are unpaid positions. Not all boards are listed and not all have openings at this time, but if you are interested in serving on any board or commission you are encouraged to apply and submit application. A brief description follows:

Benton Development Group:

Oversees and guides economic development in Benton County. (five- members)

Board of Adjustment:

Five-member board to review county zoning ordinance and hear requests for variances or special exceptions to the ordinance. (one-member term expiring)

Compensation Board for the Condemnation of Private Property(Eminent Domain):

28-member commission representing realtors, farmers, bankers, auctioneers and city property owners to be available to the chief judge of the judicial district to assess damages to property taken by eminent domain.

Conservation Board:

Five-member board to provide guidance and oversee the operations of county parks and related activities. (one-member term expiring)

Airport Zoning Commission:

Reviews and enforces airport zoning ordinances and makes recommendations for any proposed changes. (one-member term expiring)

Pioneer Cemetery Commission:

Provides management of Pioneer Cemeteries in Benton County (three members term expiring)

Benefited Fire District Board:

A three-member board that provides management for the benefited fire district. (Van Horne, Keystone, Newhall-one-member term expiring each)

Historic Preservation Commission:

Recognizes, enhances, and protects sites and districts of historical and cultural significance in Benton County. (two-members term expiring)

Integrated Vegetation Roadside Management:

Oversees programs to promote management of roadsides in Benton County through vegetation. (two-members term expiring)

Board of Health:

Five-member board to provide guidance and oversee operations of county Public Health department. (three-members term expiring)

Solid Waste Commission:

Consists of Seven-members appointed by the county and a representative from each city to oversee the landfill operations (seven-members terms expiring)

East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) various committees:

Board of Directors. The county needs one representative who is not a city or county elected official to join other elected representatives from the Region. (one-member term expiring)

TTAC:

Consists of three representatives from each county region with transportation knowledge to provide recommendations on transportation planning and programming issues. (one-member term expiring)

RTAC:

Consists of 2 representatives from each county in Region 10 area to provide recommendations regarding trails planning and programming issues for the 7-county region. (two-member term expiring)

PTAC:

Consists of two representatives from each county in Region 10 area to provide recommendations for transit planning and programming issues. It is recommended that the applicants include someone representing local transit operation and one representing human services. (one-member term expiring)

RLF:

Consists of nine-representatives who provide knowledge or expertise to provide recommendations to the ECICOG Board of Directors regarding loans and financial assistance located within the ECICOG Region. (one-member term expiring)
