This week, many bills were voted on and passed on the House floor. We strengthened the laws for cruelty to animals with House File 737, as there have been studies showing people who torture pets are more likely to commit violence against people.

House File 692 was passed which will improve the way absentee ballots are counted legally. This should eliminate any discrepancies of intelligent mail barcodes, and the bill is now being taken up in the Senate.

The House passed File 732, which allows doctors to be able to prescribe cannabidiol (CBD) oil under strict circumstances and limited availability. The development of this legislation was given advice from a board of medical professionals and law enforcement to review and assist crafting this legislation.

Net metering, House File 669, has become a big topic recently which deals with whether or not customers who purchase and install solar panels will be charged an extra fee to help maintain infrastructure. Current solar and wind electricity producers will be grandfathered in and will not pay the extra costs if this bill is enacted.

On Wednesday, March 27th, we had a Memorial Service for the legislators that passed away in the last two years, which included our own Representative Dell Hanson (2003-2005), who passed away Nov. 6, 2017.

The weather has improved by leaps and bounds in the last couple weeks, and before you know it, farmers will be planting. Please be safe out there!
