Government : Resident wins favor of the council, only to lose it again

In a case brought to the council, which originated over a complaint of the construction of a fence and also because of work he was performing on his home, Blake Benson of 615 E. 6th St., Vinton, has been cited for failure to obtain a permit to build.

In documents shown to the council, the civil citation would cost Benson a $500.00 penalty and $85.00 in court costs.

Benson brought his situation to the council.

After much discussion, and leniency from the council, it was suggested that the city agree to withdraw the case if Benson agreed to return Thursday evening to the meeting with the needed paperwork and the $45 feel for his permits saving him the cost of the citation.

Benson agreed to do this.

However, by the conclusion of the meeting, Benson had again failed to return the necessary paperwork or fee releasing the council from their previous agreement.
