Tom Gerhold, announced today he will be seeking election as a Republican to the Iowa House in District 75 which includes all of Benton County and portions of Iowa County. Gerhold grew up on his family’s century farm near Atkins where at a young age he was taught the value of a dollar and a hard days work.  He graduated from Benton Community High School, attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa.  Gerhold works as a Research Associate in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Gerhold will bring a commitment to hard work and commonsense to the Legislature.  “I will follow Rep. Pettengill’s lead and work as hard as I can for good government that serves the citizens of Benton and Iowa Counties,” said Gerhold.  “I will work to strengthen Iowa’s families and our economy so our state can be better for our children and grandchildren.  We can accomplish this by allowing people to keep more of what they earn in their own pockets and providing our children the skills they need with a world-class education.” Gerhold is an Elder at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Atkins.  He enjoys participating in RAGBRAI every summer.  He and his wife, Julia have been married for 12 years. Updated: 3/19/18 Last week, Tom Gerhold (Atkins) filed his nomination petitions to the Secretary of State's office to seek election to the Iowa House this fall. "Now that I'm officially a candidate, I'm excited to start meeting voters at their doors to listen to their concerns and ideas about ways to improve education, health care, and our economy in Iowa," said Gerhold.
