March 14th is National Pi Day. The Friends of the Vinton Public Library will be conducting a silent auction of pies Friday, March 13th. The auction will include pies baked by Friends members and donors.
Pie bidding can be in person or via cell phone from 7 am to Noon on the 13th. A person or business can stop by the library to get started on bids or text to Greg Walston, President of the Friends’ group, at 641-208-7602. Bidders can watch the Vinton Public Library Facebook page for ongoing bid updates and to increase a bid. Bidding ends at noon and pies can be picked up after bidding ends.
Pie donations a French silk chocolate pie made by Dawn Richards and fruit pies made by Friends of the Library members including a Door County cherry pie, apple pie, pecan pie, and a berry pie.
The Friends of the Library organization has a goal to raise $1,500 to purchase additional supplies for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities at the library. The supplies will include patterned tiles, a puzzle ball track, magnet balls, and wooden gears for use by children under 12 years of age. These items provide hands-on learning opportunities for kids to be creative and use their imaginations. Organized STEAM activities are held at least once per month and more often during the summer.
Regular donations can also be made toward the project. Friends of the Library is a 501(c)3 organization through the Vinton Community Foundation.
