Events and Activities : Boomtown/Boomfest weekend is here!

The weekend that area fireworks builders and fireworks fans look forward to each year has arrived. Boomtown 2018 begins with a TGIF (Thank God It's Fireworks) night on Friday, with a beer tent, DJ, food vendors and a few fireworks displays as well as some Class C IPA challenge displays. Boomfest begins Saturday morning in downtown Vinton. Here is the downtown Boomfest schedule: 9am Kiwanis ‘Bring the Noise’ 5k Run/Walk 10am-4pm Arts, Craft & Repurposed Vendors set up on the downtown streets. Food Vendors Open on the downtown streets. Downtown Stores open with Boom-Fest specials! 10am-12pm KHAK 98.1 Live Remote Broadcast 10am-12pm Powerhouse Gymnastics Open Mat 11am Bags Tournament begins 11am-3pm FREE inflatables for the kiddos! A new event this year is the bags tournament. Call Vinton Unlimited (472-3955) or Arnold Motor Supply (472-5201) to sign up. $10 entry fee per team with payouts to the winning teams. Boomtown schedule 4pm: Gates open at the fairgrounds. Parking at the fairgrounds is $10 per vehicle. Grandstand admission is $10 per person, all ages. 6pm – 7:30pm: Live performance by Slap ‘N Tickle 7:30 (approx): Opening ceremonies with presentation of colors and National Anthem. Following the opening ceremonies: Member Showcase: Hand-built shells by IPA members. Listen for announcements about the type of shell being fired and who created it. Junior pyro show: Choreographed and lit by youth 18 and under as they learn the safety precautions and skills to master the art of pyrotechnics. Intermission (approximately 15-30 minutes): Safety is number one. Please be patient while the final safety and security checks are completed. Approx. 9:30pm: Grand Public Display.
