Events and Activities : National Commission on Military, National and Public Service

Join the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service at a public meeting on June 26, 2018, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Wesley Methodist Church, 516 2^nd Ave, Vinton, IA 52349.  This will be a conversation about how community needs can be addressed through national, public, and military service. The meeting will include a panel discussion with community leaders who will discuss needs and opportunities of small towns and rural communities, and how service helps Iowans meet critical agricultural/rural needs. The public meeting will conclude with a Q&A session. The audience will be able to react to the panel and discuss how they can utilize and benefit from service to advance their respective communities. The commission was created by Congress to consider and develop recommendations to find ways to encourage and inspire more Americans to serve their country and communities and review the military selective service process. The commission is igniting a national conversation about the value and importance of service as it develops recommendations for the American public, Congress, and the President by March 2020.Commissioners are gathering recommendations by holding public meetings, visiting service sites, talking with young people, and meeting with government, nonprofit, civic and for-profit leaders.
