Come celebrate spring at the 9th annual Benton County ISU Extension Master Gardeners “Garden Extravaganza” Saturday, May 11, at First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine. The church is located at 1523 Sunset Drive, two blocks north of Dollar General.

Activities start at 8-9 am with registration plus the always popular plant and garden art sale. Sales are open to the public free of charge. Come early for best selections of plants that come from Master Gardener personal gardens and winter greenhouse projects. Heirloom plants will also be available.

Everyone who registers will be eligible to win valuable prizes donated by area vendors and Benton County Master Gardeners. Early registration for prizes, lectures and workshop is $15. After May 3,$20. Posters with information and registration forms can be found at area libraries or by contacting:

Scheduled features:

9am - “Miniature Gardens” by Linn County Master Gardener Becki Lynch.

From fairies to elaborate villages, she will review the materials needed for a variety of miniature gardens, and how you can make your own – with or without your favorite small fry—and guaranteed to lighten all hearts!

10am –“Maximizing Your Garden Enjoyment” by Lifetime Master Gardener and author Jamie Beyer. His presentation includes adding whimsy to your plot, allocating garden time, viewing your garden, managing it and sharing. Jamie will also bring a gift for you!

11am – Join Benton County Master Gardener Tammi Cook for a “Gourd Birdhouse Workshop” as she helps you create a beautiful organic birdhouse from dried gourds to take home.
