At its regular meeting Jan. 3, 2013, the Center Point Friends of the Library put the final touches on plans for a second quilt show/fabric and needlework book sale.
The event to raise money for the Public Library will be from 9 to 2 in the Library basement on Saturday, Jan. 26. The group voted to call it “Friends Fab Five Sale because five types of donated items--fabric, needlework kits, notions, yarn and books on quilting and needlework-- will be sold.
‘Lucelle’s Legacy’ is a display of numerous quilts pieced by Lucelle Lewis Beatty (1911-2009) of Center Point, as well as samples of her needlepoint and other fancywork. The exhibit is being put together by her daughter Eloise Dennis, who will be on hand to tell the quilts’ stories and to sign copies of the book Eloise helped put together, “Lewis Bottoms Its Legacy and Lore.” Eloise has donated copies of the book to Friends. They will be for sale at a special ‘Lucelle’s Legacy’ price of $10 to benefit the Library.
In other business, Friends decided to apply to have another Bookfair at Barnes & Noble at Easter; to become more involved in grant writing to help with Library funding; and to consider sponsoring art/crafts classes for kids and adults at the Library.
Friends meets the first Thursday of each month at the Center Point Public Library at 6:30p.m. The public is always welcome, and those who are prospective members even more welcome. Yearly dues are $5 for individuals, $10 for families and $25 for businesses and groups.
