Oak Grove Church presents 'Christmas Unwrapped,' a new take on discovering the true meaning of Christmas, at 6 p.m. Sat., Dec. 24, 2011.

The play takes place the day after Christmas and follows the path of one Christmas store owner, Bob Furkle played by local Vinton resident Scott Merchant, as he struggles to make sense of the Christmas season.

“This production reveals the need for every one of us to slow down this Christmas season and really think about what we're celebrating," said Jason Sanders, Oak Grove Associate and Youth Pastor, who is also directing the drama. “It is a realistic look into the commercialization we can all get caught up in at Christmastime and how focusing on that alone will leave us empty and searching. I pray this play provides answers to those searchers and a renewed sense of worship to those of us who may have just lost our way."

Sanders anticipates the production will resonate with people who may not regularly participate in Christmas festivities.

“This is not your typical play with a baby in a manger," said Sanders. “There is a universal message of redemption and break through within this play that will resonate with everyone.”
