The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce its’ annual Salsa Contest of the Vinton Farmers Market is this coming Thursday, August 11th. The market is held at the Vinton Rail Road Depot at 612 2nd Avenue from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays.

This contest is for all of you to make your own salsa from scratch and preferably vegetables from our Vinton Farmers market or your own garden. There are three categories for this year’s contest including Mild, Hot & Spicy or Fruity. All contestants are asked to enter with a minimum of a quart of their Salsa. After the judges have completed their sampling, we will allow the public to enjoy some salsa and chips.

Our preference would be for you to pre-register for the contest by Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. by calling the VPRD office at 472-4164 but if you don’t get that done, just bring your quart of salsa to the market by 4:30 on Thursday night.

The market has been very fortunate to have some great vendors that bring fabulous products for everyone to purchase. The selection has included vegetables, fruits, baked goods, honey and crafts.

This week, Merchants Grilling will be a cooking a hot supper for you to enjoy so stop out and make it a fun night for the whole family.

If you have any questions about the market or are interested in becoming a vendor, contact the VPRD at 472-4164. You can also visit our website at vprdzone.com for weekly activities and vendor registration forms.
