If you have ever dreamed about being a boat captain, your time to make it a reality will be tomorrow night, Saturday, July 30th!
The VPRD is organizing its first ever cardboard boat races.
Construct a boat beforehand using only cardboard and duct tape then bring it out to the Vinton Community Pool at 6 PM to get it registered for the races. Starting at 7 PM, races will begin and you will then steer your boat to the finish line or find out if it is the next piece of sunk shipwreckage. There is no entry fee and best of all, boat racers get into the pool for free! Racing categories are as follows:
- 13 & Under (single person boat)
- 14 & Older (single person boat)
- Doubles Competition (two-person boat - all ages welcome!)
There will also be some prizes awarded just for fun in the following categories:
- Titanic (most dramatic sinking)
- Best Costume (most creatively dressed person/team & boat)
- Best Buoyant Beginning (most likely to float)
Please visit the 'Special Events' section at vprdzone.com for more information and rules for boat construction and tomorrow night’s races! There is no pre-registration required before race day so just show up with your boat at 6 PM and get ready to sail away!
