The Benton County Corn Growers will be hosting a "Corn College Program" this year. The purpose of the program is to connect and inform non-ag business professionals and community members about the corn industry. We hope to bridge the growing gap between the farm and the everyday consumer to create transparency behind what goes down on the farm to create the food and products we use every day. Our farmer board members will be the "teachers" of the class and will be sharing their personal experiences with different aspects of their operations.

The first meeting will cover some of the basics of the farming business.

The second meeting will include a tour of one of the corn milling facilities in Cedar Rapids to showcase how useful the corn kernel can be.

The third takes place right before harvest season and will wrap up with the decisions farmers have to make as they prepare to reap the benefits of their hard work during the growing season. (Participants will also have the opportunity to do two different ride alongs with our farmers, one during spring planting and the other during fall harvest.)

We are excited to share this exciting opportunity to learn more about the corn industry from our local farmers. The event is free with meals provided. To register, send an email to mcady@iowacorn.org or reach out via phone (515) 802-9923.
