Events and Activities : National Rifle Association class on Basic Pistol

On June 25th a National Rifle Association class on Basic Pistol will be conducted at the Izaak Walton League north of Vinton. This is an eight hour course featuring basic skill learning, actual handling and becoming familiar with handguns. Certification on the range and a basic written test will be required at the end of the class time. The class will be instructed by Russ Glime who has been giving firearm safety classes for over 37 years in the Benton County area. This class will certify students to be able to make application to the County Sheriff for a Permit to Carry a Concealed Weapon (CCW) if they wish to. The Iowa Legislature modified the CCW law effective January 1st 2011 making it a requirement that applicants take a safe gun handling course. This course meets that intent of the new law and the range portion will satisfy the requirement of present holders of CCW permits that need to re-qualify.
