We are pleased to announce the upcoming 2011 Iowa Crop Scouting Competitions. The competitions will be held in late July/early August. High school students (those completing grades 9?12) who have used the Scouting Curriculum from across Iowa are invited to compete and showcase their scouting abilities in corn and soybean fields. ISU Extension has available Scouting Curriculum and supporting Crop Scouting Field Guides for teams to use to prep for the competition. To request a copy of the Scouting Curriculum, which includes the Scouting Fields learning module, a 14?part Integrated Pest Management curriculum, and five ISU Field Guides on PDF, email Adam Sisson atajsisson@iastate.edu with your name, address, and affiliation and a CD with the Scouting Curriculum will be sent to you.

Locations: The Crop Scouting competitions will be conducted on a regional level at four ISU Research Farms. Teams can request to sign up to compete at any regional farm but may be assigned to compete at the nearest farm based on numbers of teams registered at each location. If a region does not have a minimum of four teams, teams that register for that region will be assigned to the nearest viable competition. Teams can be 3-4 youth plus an adult volunteer. If you are interested in being an adult volunteer contact your County Extension Youth Coordinator to find you more details and get the full competition details.
