Events and Activities : IOWA AUTHOR LINDA BETSINGER MCCANN TALKS PROHIBITION IN EASTERN IOWA MAY 2

The Center Point Library will host Shell Rock grandma Linda Betsinger McCann. Years ago sge started writing down Eastern Iowa history stories so her grandkids wouldn't be ignorant of their past. She's never quit writing for them and, luckily, for the rest of us.

She'll be at the Center Point Library Community Room Monday, May 2, at 7 p.m. doing a free program about her book "Prohibition in Eastern Iowa."

When she started the 2014 book, she said she was shocked to hear Iowans say they hadn't known we ever had prohibition in this state. Iowa had actually gone dry several years ahead of national Prohibition which lasted from 1920 to 1933.

Copies of McCann's other books, on topics such as lost towns of Eastern Iowa, the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Cedar Valley Road electric Interurban-now the nature trail that goes through Center Point-and prisoner of war camps, will be for sale at the event.

The program is sponsored by the Center Point Historical Society and Friends of the Center Point Library.
