Dysart's Mayor, Tim Glenn, introduced the idea of holding "Iowa's Shortest St. Patricks's Day Parade" to the City Council earlier this month. "WHY?" you might ask. "We like to do fun and unique events in Dysart!" he said."I've always wanted to have one, and having it over the lunch hour allows businesses and more people to participate...and be able to watch NCAA basketball and our BIG10 Champ Hawkeyes!"
The mayor said that the parade will start at "O'Main and McWilson" streets and end at the Dysart Gorge (this is an art display that was painted on the street in Dysart back in 2018.) The Gorge starts about halfway down the block and ends on Clark Street. This is a participation parade. You can walk or dress up your golf cart. No need to register. "We'll be cranking the bagpipes over the Main St. speakers!" the Mayor announced. There will be green refreshments for both adults and children available, the Mayor said.

Area merchants are being invited to participate in the public parade which will take place during the Union Community School District's spring break week.

The mayor asked Dysart's Chief of Police Joe Hols to lead the parade and the fire department to contribute a truck. It was pointed out that one truck would fill the space allotted for the parade, to the amusement of the council.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. and might be over at 12:16 p.m.

No, the city offices will NOT be closed for the parade.
