Our theme for the One Book, One Community for the end of March was to be a tourist in your own town.

We had visions of tours around town discussing the murals and finding out the backstory of these paintings that mean so much to Vinton, tours of downtown finding out what buildings used to be what, tours of the Braille School, the Depot, etc.

However, the plans were not meant to be. Because everyone seems to have extra time on their hands staying home, if you would like to post something about these places on our website, we would love it! A few of us from town are transplants and don't know the meaning or the story behind the mural or the building. Do you? Could you share a memory or some history with us?

There are several murals on the Facebook page that are waiting for a comment from someone to share their history or a story. We hope the community will share more pictures of history and stories. Maybe we can travel around Vinton without leaving our home and immerse ourselves in the history of our town. What a great way for the kids to have a learning experience in their town as well!

You can find it on Facebook under Vinton One Book, One Community.
