Events and Activities : Cooking, not dancing: Salsa contest returns to Farmers Market

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department and the Vinton Farmers Market will once again host its annual Salsa Contest on Thursday, August 11th. For those interested in participating, there is no fee for entry and no pre-registration is required. The rules of the contest are simple: 1. Individuals may enter one OR both types of salsa 2. Home cooks only. Not for businesses or resale people. 3. Must use fresh ingredients as much as possible. 4. Must submit approximately one quart to the market by 4:45 PM on Thursday for sampling and judging. 5. At 5:30 PM on August 11th, winners will be awarded in two categories: MILD and SPICY/OTHER 6. Awards will be given to the champions (they are not monetary as this contest is just for fun!) After judging is complete, all market attendees will have the opportunity to sample the contest salsas. The Vinton Farmers Market takes place every Thursday through the end of September from 5-7 PM at the Vinton Railroad Depot.
