At its April 28, 2016, meeting the Center Point Historical Society planned its annual Player Piano Party to open the Depot Museum for the season. The theme for this year and next is “The Fifties and Sixties.”
The free party will be from 2 to 4 Sunday, June 5, with piano music by Jeanette Elgin, a “Show and Shine” in the parking lot by the All Iowa Mustang Club, and a chance for everyone to play the 1923 restored player piano.
The new Museum displays include the Vietnam and Korean wars, clothes and toys from the fifties and sixties, the 1954 Centennial, and CP school items including the resurrected scoreboard from old, old gym.
Guests are invited to wear Fifties clothes. And Elvis will be in the house.
Helping get the Museum ready for the season have been Deb Smock’s Service Learning Class members Alex Crandall, Dj Ray, Devin Havener, Kaitlyn Weber, Kayla Stillions, and Chuck Hingst, and Historical Society members Daphne and Harold Miller, Teresa Scheeler, Virginia Benson, Philip Andersen and Sharon Hannen.
The Depot Museum is open, free, every Sunday, 2-4, from June 5 through August 28, and by appointment.
The next Historical Society meeting is Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m. at the Museum. Guests are always welcome.
