Events and Activities : Reality Check

Reality Check is a student lead advocacy group that strives to improve the quality of our schools and community through prevention strategies focused on substance abuse issues. Over the past few years they have been active in educational activities, acts of service and prevention efforts with the Above The Influence Coalition. A great opportunity is taking place this summer that allows for members of Reality Check to participate in a national student training that focuses on leadership development and equipping students to implement changes in their communities. This training is the National Youth Leadership presented at the CADCA Mid-Year which is taking place in Las Vegas on July 17-21. During this training students will attend courses geared to develop leadership skills and equip them with the necessary tools to help achieve community-level changes. Attending this training will empower young people from Vinton to take youth-led civic action in our community when they return. This training will bring our students together with other advocacy groups from all around the nation as they discover ways that they can be making a real difference. Our group partners with the Above The Influence Coalition but we are currently in need of an additional $1,000 in order to send all the students that have signed up this year. These funds will cover lodging, registration, travel expense and food while at the conference. Any amount that you would be able to provide as a scholarship would be appreciated.
