Vinton Today has learned that the 5th Annual Flaughless 5K, in honor of VS alum Dan Flaugh, will be the last one.

Organizer Georgia Meeker Sysouchanh sent out the following announcment this morning:

After careful thought and consideration, I’ve decided this year’s race on Saturday, October 15, 2016 will be the last race. It was a difficult decision to make but I feel that we have had a very successful four years and plan to make our 5th and Final Flaughless 5K the best yet!

I would like to thank each of you for your continued support. I am so proud of the more than $55,000 we raised for Wounded Warrior Project over the last four years.

I’m excited that our event will support Retrieving Freedom this year, a local nonprofit that trains service dogs for veterans. (Josh Mulder of Vinton is one veteran who has received a service dog through this program).

Although this will be the last race, I hope you will continue to support any veteran’s organization of your choosing.

I look forward to seeing all of you again for the 5th & Final Flaughless 5K.

With my deepest appreciation,

Georgia Sysouchanh
Flaughless 5K Race Director
