Events and Activities : Thursday concert to feature VSMS Jazz Band, choir students

Vinton-Shellsburg Jazz Band, Show Choir and Choir students will perform this Thursday evening, March 17, in the high school auditorium.

The Jazz Band will perform at 6:30. The middle school students recently performed at the NEIBA Jazz Band Festival with two students receiving jazz soloist recognition. Twenty-one students, grades 6-8, participate under the direction of Mrs. Jodi Bierschenk.

At 7:00, the 7th & 8th Grade Choirs will present “In Living Color”, an evening of musical favorites. Choir selections include “Colors of the Wind,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Wonderful World” and “Blue Skies.”

Featured groups and soloists will round out the program with songs ranging from an original composition, by eighth grade student Davia Herger, to a Beethoven favorite performed by pianist Lillie Lamont.

The 30 member Show Choir will be a featured group this evening, having spent the last six weeks rehearsing before school two or three times a week. They will be presenting “Life Is a Highway” and “In Summer.” This group has enjoyed and appreciated learning their choreography from Joan Cooling Noeller.

The public is invited to this concert! A freewill ticket donation may be made at the door.
