The Old Creamery Nature Trail is just over 14 miles in length and runs from Vinton through Garrison to Dysart. The trail is open for the use of walkers, runners, bicyclists, bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. The trail base is primarily composed of limestone and we do our best to keep it mowed and sprayed during the warm weather months. In 2009, a group of geocachers joined in and planted over 40 "caches" along the trail. This has helped bring in people from not only the state of Iowa, but all across the country. The web site for the OCNT is: www.OldCreameryNatureTrail.org We are always looking for volunteers to help with trail upkeep and promoting the great resource that we have here in Benton County. In 2010, we have some exciting plans. Our first goal is to increase awareness of the trail which we hope increases the use of it. We are in the planning stages of a possible bike ride later in the summer as well as t-shirt sells to help raise funds for the upkeep. As of now, 100% of the maintenance of this trail is through donations and volunteers. We meet the first Monday of every month at 7:00 pm. The meetings rotate between Vinton, Garrison, and Dysart. Our next meeting is Monday April 5 at 7:00 pm in Vinton at the Fire Station. We welcome everyone to join us!
