Another totally fun and enjoyable day is in store at Garrison’s annual Fun Day Celebration on Saturday, July 11. This event is also the community’s annual celebration. Activities will be held at the park, on Main Street, Emergency Services Building, Farmers Mercantile Hall and at the Hitchin Post.
The day begins with the 3rd annual Howard Schoonover Memorial and Cancer Awareness Poker Run Fundraiser with Registration at the Hitchin’ Post at 8 AM a.m. and departure at 9 AM. Proceeds will be donated to the Survivors of Benton County. Entry fee is $10 per rider. For information call Joe at 319-560-3733.
Activities shift to the park at 2 p.m. with the 3rd Annual Kid’s Health and Safety Fair from 2 pm to 4:30 p.m. The first 100 kids will receive a goodie bag. There will be over 35 booths in attendance, Blank Children’s Hospital’s Safety House and an opportunity to meet a few local Mascots. All children must be accompanied by an adult to attend. The 8th Annual Garrison Show and Shine Car Show held from 2 pm to at 5 PM on Main Street. Registration is $10. There will be trophies for the following categories Best Ford, Best GM, Best Dodge and Best of Show. For more information on the car cruise contact Steve Ary at 477-8148.
The annual barbeque will be held at the Emergency Services Building. This year’s barbeque will be beef provided by local beef producers. The barbeque begins at 5:00 PM. Admission to the barbeque and the dance will be by donation.
Following the barbeque people can enjoy an evening of Bluegrass by Castle Ridge at the Farmers Mercantile Hall on Main Street from 7 pm to 9:30 pm. Admission is $7. Proceeds will benefit the Mercantile Hall. Refreshments will be provided by the Garrison Library.
Garrison Fun Day is sponsored by the Garrison Emergency Services Foundation. The Garrison Emergency Services Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization serving the needs of the Garrison Fire Department, Garrison First Responders, and Garrison Emergency Services Auxiliary assist with the event. All proceeds of the foundation are used for improvements to Garrison Emergency Services.
