VINTON GARDEN CLUB

APRIL 29, 2015

The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Club, Inc., District II and Central Region met at

1:00 pm, April 29th, 2015 at Luanna Hawkins home. Our speaker was David Gates, he gave a interesting talk on the “care and planting of bulbs, tulips, dahlias, glads, calla lilies etc.

President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm. Nine members and one guest recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge.

Roll call was then given by secretary with question “what is your favorite bulbs?

Secretary Joyce Bratten then read the minutes from March meeting. There were no corrections so will stand approved as read.

Treasurer Sharen Stueck then gave the treasurer's report.

There was no other questions on the treasurer's report, so it will be filed for audit.

Correspondence: Fran read a card from Cedar Valley Ranch thanking the club for going and helping them plant flower seeds on April 7, 2015.

Committee Reports:

Garden Therapy: Luanna gave report about how 20 people from Cedar Valley Ranch gathered to plant the flower seeds in small containers so when they grow they can plant the flowers into their flower beds. Afterward the Ranch served cookies and coffee. President then called a short meeting. The club chose John Eden of Vinton to be the winner of the scholarship the club gives out.

Fran has inquired about planting a tree Red Rocket on May 4th,.. Brian Elwick has to give us a place where to plant the tree also Brian will assist in the planting. The club will meet at 1:00 pm for the planting.

The District II meeting is Friday May 1,2015 in Hiawatha with the Good Earth Garden Club as hostess. Ten members plan on attending the day. Will car pool, Fran and Sharen will be the drivers.

New Business:

Plans were made for the upcoming Plant and Bake Sale on Friday, May 8th, from 5:00—6:30, at the Open Class Building at the fairgrounds.

Fran talked about the upcoming State Garden Club meeting on Friday June 19, 2015 at the Sheraton in Iowa City.

Fran handed out the schedule for planting the planter around town.

Everyone welcomed Rosie Boisen, she has decided to join the club.

Plans for our next meeting will be on May 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at the 218 Roadside Park. Joyce will be hostess. It will be a potluck lunch and a day of painting.

Fran and the club thanked Luanna for the dessert and for holding the meeting in her home.
