At its meeting on April Fools’ Day the Center Point Friends of the Library wisely decided to change its annual used book sale to work around the happy hassle of Library expansion construction which has already begun.
This spring the book sale will be on one day only and only during Library hours—10 to 2, Saturday, May 30. Access will be only through the Library front door. Prices will be the usual friendly 50 cents for hard covers, 25 cents for paperbacks and a dime for magazines. The Methodist Church youth group will have a bake sale in the Library kitchen during the book sale.
If enough used books are available Friends plans to have a second sale in the fall.
The group also discussed details for the Downton Abbey tea party on Saturday, May 9, at Kristeena’s Wild Thyme Tea Room in Palo. Local caterer and Library patron Kristeena Opfer is partnering with Friends on the fund raiser for the Library. Reservations are $12 each and due by May 2 at the Library or mailed to Friends at Box 54, Center Point. Seating is limited.
Also partnering with Friends is Sherbon’s Flower Market in Walker. Sherbon’s is donating the flowering plants for individual mementos of the tea party guests will take home.
The party will include a three course English tea, live harp music by Aleese Baldwin and tasty historical tidbits about the art of tea by Englishman Paul Wood. Guests are invited to dress up as a Downton Abbey character. Call 319-438-6487 with questions.
In other business, Friends voted to provide one of the prizes for the Library Lego Club summer session which will be at 2 p.m. Wednesdays, June 10, 17 and 24. Friends sponsors the free Lego Club and it is led by Friends president Christina Lahr and treasurer Vicki Thompson..
