We have had a great kick start to our Shoes for Shelters campaign, but we still need your help! Please clean out your closets and donate your old shoes!

Friends of the Shelter, Inc. is conducting a shoe collection drive now-May 15 to raise funds to offset vet expenses for the animals in our care as well as make necessary updates to our adoption center. FOTSI will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at our downtown adoption center (211 West 4th Street-Vinton), the Vinton Palace Theatre, or Grant Wood AEA in Cedar Rapids. You can also email VintonShelter@yahoo.com to coordinate a drop off time.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. “We are excited about our shoe drive," said Taylor and Peyton Frank, FOTSI volunteers. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient. It’s a win-win for everyone."

FOTSI would like to extend a thank you to Marcy Horst at the Palace Theatre and Stacy Murphy at Grant Wood AEA for opening their facilities for donation drop offs.
