The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II, and Central Region met at 1:00 pm, October 29, 2014, at the Benton County Conservation Center with Susie Hansen as hostess. A program on “Preparing for Disasters” by Scott Hansen, Benton County Emergency Management Agency.

President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the conservation pledge. Ten members answered roll call “Do you have a disaster plan?”

The secretary and treasurers reports were read and approved.

Committee reports – Anne Dake sent a sympathy card for Evelene Neuendorf a former member that passed away. Everyone working on getting new members. News put in paper and on Vinton Today.

Unfinished Business:

Fran attended the Central Region meeting in Minneapolis, MN on Oct. 9th to 11th. The convention hotel nestled in the woods. Had a fun workshop making cards out of pressed flowers Tour to the Minnesota Arboretum. Fran passed around pictures. Program on Hybrid Lilies, and members from each state were chosen to put together a design in thirty minutes. The vase and flowers were provided. Iowa members attending had a great time doing a skit Fran wrote for the 2015 convention . Fran is chairman of Central Region Convention 2015, at Hotel Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids. Fran entered the petite flower show in design section. She also was chosen to help judge the show.

Members are not attending accents on entertaining in Marshalltown this year. Fran is taking her Red Hat group on Friday evening for the viewing of the tables the Marshalltown Garden Club members each design.

Smokey Bear Woodsy Owl posters will be ready for judging at the December meeting.

New Business -

Fran and Ted attended the NGC board meeting held in Des Moines Sept. 24th to 27th. Fran made a design for Central Region Director, Gerry Ford that was displayed in the hall by convention meetings. She was tour guide on one of the buses as they visited different points of interest in downtown Des Moines. Ted helped Sandy Gossman Chairman get items on the Bus. A box lunch and speaker at the Botanical Center. Fran helped put together the table designs. She also helped the NGC protocol chairman

Fran attended the District II presidents workshop in Jesup on October 7th . Each club represented shared ideas their club does and places of interest to visit.

Plans to clean off the flower beds at Schrebrings and Tilford Elementary perennial bed will be planned when the weather is good. Members have more time in Fall than Spring.

The December 3rd meeting will be a potluck at 11:00 am in the hospital cafeteria board room.

Therapy with residents is scheduled after the meal and meeting.

Central Region meeting in Iowa October 3-5, 2015 put on your calendar. Done by noon on Monday. All members attending will be helping with convention. Don't forget to let Fran know if you are planning on staying at hotel.

Fran reminded the club to think about ideas for programs or tours members would like to hear and see in 2015.

The next meeting will be November 19th at 1:00p.m. with Michelle Foshe-Gibson as hostess at the Vinton Library. She will give a program on “Repotting Orchids”.
