The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II, and Central Region met at 8:00 am, September 24, 2014, at the Benton County Conservation Center with Fran Stueck as hostess. Fran fixed a wonderful breakfast for us. After breakfast we had our program on “Migration of the Monarch Butterfly” by Karen Phelps, Benton County Naturalist. She is always a delight to hear.
President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 9:35 am. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the conservation pledge. Seven members answered the roll call “what attracts butterflies in your garden?”.
The secretary and treasurers reports were read and approved.
Unfinished business - Therapy at Windsor Manor September 16th. Three members, Kelly Kaut, Ted and Fran Stueck brought buckets of various flowers for the residents to use for their designs. There were nine residents that came out and made 30 designs so all the residents had one for their room. It was a very rewarding afternoon listening to the residents talk about the flowers that they used to grow. Some of them were brought that day by members. Members helping at Windsor Manor were Fran and Kelly, Sharen Stueck and Kelly had put everything together the previous day for the flower designs.
Fran reminded the club to look at the flower beds and containers we planted in the spring. Schrebrings is gorgeous!

Luanna Hawkins volunteered to be co-chairman of flower show at the fair show in 2015.
Fran will be attending the Central Region meeting in Minneapolis, MN October 9th to 11th.
New Business - Accents on Entertaining in Marshalltown will be held November 8th. If anyone would like to attend Fran has the information. Tickets are $15 reservations are required.
Fran reported on the state raising dues to $10. Fran read the news release from the FGCI Fall Board Meeting by President Sandy Wales on the Dues. Discussion to raise the dues. Motion made by Cam Wood to raise the dues to $15, second by Sharen Stueck. Motion carried.
Fran reminded the club to think about ideas for programs or tours members would like to hear and see next year.
The next meeting will be October 29th with Susie Hansen as hostess. Our speaker is Scott Hansen on preparing for disasters.
