Area Substance Abuse Council to meet the 13th, Thursday

3rd Annual Flower Pot Challenge

Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community will be holding their 3rd Annual Contest for the most creative flower pot that showcases area businesses or service organizations. Just decorate a flower pot, and drop it off at Windsor Manor by Friday May 21st. Judging will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday May 28th. Everyone in the community is invited to a community BBQ from 4-6 p.

Post 57 of Vinton to hold Fish Fry

The American Legion of Vinton will host a fish fry on Friday, May 14th serving from 4:00-7:00 P.M. The Legion is located at 105 N. R Ave. in Vinton. Adults cost $7.00, children 5-12 $3.00, and under 5 eat FREE! All you can eat, while supplies last! Drive on out to the Legion for a delicious fish supper this Friday!

American Legion Auxilary Hold Brunch

On Sunday May 16th, the Mt. Auburn Legion Auxilary will hold a brunch from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Auburn Legion Hall.  Everyone is welcome to attend! Adults eat for $7 each, chidlren 10 and under are $5, and preschool children eat free. Come and support the Auxilary.

Benton County Master Gardeners to hold Sale

The Benton County Master Gardeners, will be holding their annual plant sale in a little more than a week.  The sale will be held at the Benton County Fairgrounds in the Open Show building.  The gardeners use the money from this event will go into their fund to help with other projects around the area. There will be in the neighborhood of 15-20 Master Gardeners at the sale.

 MLMP Workshop Wednesday, May 26 6:30  9 pm Izaak Walton League, Vinton, Iowa The World Wildlife Fund has included the monarch butterfly on its list of the Ten to Watch in 2010  largely due to the multiple threats to the migration phenomenon. Habitat destruction in the overwintering forests of Mexico has been compounded with the huge loss of milkweed in the North American agricultural belt due largely to Round-up Ready farming, which kills milkweed along with other weeds in farm fields.
