Public invited to meet Branstad today in Vinton

     Iowa Governor Terry Brandstad will be bringing his "Jobs for Iowa Tour" to Vinton today, Wednesday, March 9, 2011,  from 2:30pm - 3:30pm in the school board meeting room on the south side of V/S Middle School (The old high school) at 1502 C Avenue. The public is invited. Many school personnel and even a few students plan to attened.

PEO Chapter HG to meet March 14

         PEO Chapter HG will meet Monday, March 14th at 7:30 p.m. at the lower level of the Country Club.

Benton County Early Childhood Iowa Plans Child Development Fair In Vinton

  Benton County Early Childhood Iowa is co-sponsoring a Child Development Fair in Vinton on April 13th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the Grant Wood Area Education Agency.  The event will be held at the Skate and Activity Center at 1703 C Avenue.   Families from Vinton and the surrounding communities will be provided free vision, hearing and developmental screenings, access to available services in the community for families and young children, as well as free handouts and gifts.

Firearms classes set

  A new law which went into effect on January 1, 2011 requires the Sheriff of each county to issue a permit to carry weapons to any person 21 years of age or older who is not addicted to alcohol, not likely to use a weapon unlawfully or in such a manner as would endanger the person’s self or others, is not a felon, and has not been convicted of a serious or aggravated misdemeanor in the past three years.

'Witnesses' comes to Wesley Methodist, March 13

  The theatrical production, Witnesses will be performed at Wesley United Methodist Church, 516 2nd Avein Vinton on Sunday, March 13 at  4:30pm.  FREE admission.  The one-man play, written by Curt Cloninger, features professional actor, performer and speaker, Jonathan P. Swenson.           In this dramatic and very personal performance, Swenson portrays eight different characters (historical and imagined) as each responds to Jesus.

Buchanan County Veteran's holding Pancake Breakfast

  The American Legion and Auxillary at Aurora is having  a delicious pancake breakfast,Serving delicious pancakes, sausage,ham, scrambled eggs,donut holes apple sauce,coffee and milk. We will be serving this breakfast on Sunday March 13th from 8 am untill 12:30 pm the cost is  adults -$6.00  5-8 yrs--$3.

Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 5th

Hundreds of high school jazz musicians will perform in Vinton Saturday; the public is welcome.   The Vinton-Shellsburg High School will be host to the 2011 NEIBA Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 5th.  This event will feature 24 High School and Middle School Jazz Bands from all over the Northeast Iowa District.  Two of the jazz bands featured at the event will be the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School Jazz Band (Performance Time- 9:00 A.

PEO Chapter MZ

  PEO Chapter MZ will meet at 1:30 PM on Monday, March 14, at the home of Joan Hyde assisted by Barb Fuchs.  The program will be presented by Frieda Davis. Election and Installation of Officers will be held.
