  The Iowa State Fair and Windstar Lines have partnered to provide round trip transportation to the Fair from 46 locations throughout the state. The convenient and affordable State Fair Express will offer motor coach service during the Iowa State Fair August 11-21.   The deadline is quickly approaching for the 2011 Iowan of the Day Program. The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation is still looking for the stars of the show! Sponsored by the Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products, the Iowan of the Day program honors outstanding volunteers each year at the Iowa State Fair.

  Horizons, A Family Service Alliance invites the public to an Anniversary Open House at 215 North K. Ave, Vinton.  The event will be held at the office from 10am to 2pm on Tuesday, June 21st.  The event will provide an opportunity to learn about Horizons’ iCan Behavioral Health Intervention Services for Children and Families, Mental Health Counseling, Early Access and Family Support Programs offered in Vinton.

[VIDEO] Kenny Salwey is a born story teller and famous author of "The Last River Rat" and "Tales of the last river rat: Adventures Wild Mississippi" and others. He will be speaking at Frazier's Nursery this weekend. Kenny's life has been documented and featured on the BBC, PBS, Discovery Channel and CBS. He shares his life experiences and tales of living as a river guide, trapper, fisherman, hunter, woodman, root and herb collector along the Mississippi.

  The Eastern Iowa Pond Society is hosting it’s annual Pond Tour on Sunday July 10th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM..  The pond tour will cover many communities this year from West Liberty through Cedar Rapids, Robins, Marion and East to Durango.  The ponds will be showcasing many ornamental fish, water plants, waterfalls and varying landscape designs.

     Many contestants have signed up for the Riverside's Got Talent event during Party in the Park.       But, says organizer Lu Karr, there is room for more participants in the schedule. A category for performers age 13 and under has been added to the line-up.       The event will include up to 18 acts, aged 13 and under, and up to 18 acts aged 14 and over.

  The next regular meeting of the Benton Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners is scheduled for Wednesday, June 15, 2011.  The Commissioners will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the District office in Vinton and will depart on their Annual Conservation Tour.  They will return to the office for their regular business meeting about 2:30 p.
