'Intensive grazing' pasture walk set for May 23, near Giard
Pasture Walk Focuses on Intensive Grazing
Pasture improvement and rotational grazing are key topics for many beef and dairy producers, but one of the big challenges becomes subdivision, fencing, and watering systems over rolling or rough terrain. These topics will be discussed at a pasture walk at the farm of Greg Koether on Wednesday, May 23, at 1 pm.
National Day of Prayer event today at noon, at courthouse
The National Day of Prayer is this Thursday, May 3.
Anyone interested in praying with other area residents for their community and nation is invited to meet at noon in front of the Benton County Courthouse. The Vinton Area Ministerial Association is sponsoring this event.
Legion Monument dedication set for Saturday at Iowa Veterans Cemetery
The American Legion of Iowa family will host a dedication ceremony commemorating the Legion monument at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, a project which has been in the works for nearly two years. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 2 p.m.at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Relay for Life set for June 1; information on luminarias offered
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Benton County will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 1, at the Vinton Shellsburg High School Track, Vinton.
One important aspect of the relay is the opportunity for people in the county to come together to remember loved ones lost to cancer and honors those who are fighting now or have won their battle.
Reifenstahl benefit planned for May 12
For more than nine years, Tina (Dolley) Reifenstahl has been fighting a very aggressive and rare form of breast cancer called HER2NUE. The cancer had progressed to the lymph nodes in her arm and neck and recently began attacking her brain. Despite two regimens of radiation, the cancer in her brain continues to grow and spread; in January of this year, doctors told Tina and
her husband Dan that they had exhausted all options and Tina was given six months to live.
