Meterologist Craig Johnson featured at Crop Conference January 30

Craig Johnson, meteorologist and Executive Director of the Iowa Academy of Science, will be the lead-off speaker at the Iowa State University Extension Crop Advantage Series at 9:00 a.m. on January 30 at the Highlander Conference Center in Iowa City. Johnson will address the topic, “Iowa’s Weather: Past, Present, and Future.” Also featured at the conference are topics on making fertilizer decisions after the drought, and corn rootworm management strategies.

Alcohol server training set for Feb. 11-1

The Benton County Above the Influence Coalition will host Training for Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) sessions at the US Bank Community Building in Vinton on February 11th and 12th, 2013 as part of the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF SIG) project. ASAC’s SPF SIG project is funded by the Iowa Department of Public Health, through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the U.

Red Cross Blood Drive set for Jan. 31

The Red Cross Vinton Community Blood Drive will be held at the Vinton Skate & Activities Center, 1703 C Ave., on Thursday, January 31, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  For an appointment contact Kristie at 472-4292 or email davcdavis@q.com.  Walk-ins are always welcome!

First Vinton tree workshop set for tomorrow; participants to receive assistance

The City of Vinton is getting closer to finishing up plans for tree workshops to assist property owners who want to replant trees in the right-of-way area next to their property. We have tentatively set workshop dates and times, but need to gauge the interest of property owners to participate. The workshops held on Tuesday and Thursday will begin at 6:30 PM, while the workshop on Saturday will be at 10:00 AM.

VINTON GARDEN CLUB news for Dec. 10, 2012

  The Vinton Garden Club member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Central Region, Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, Inc. and District II met at the Bricklynn Cafe and Blacksmith Boutique in Dysart for lunch and for the program on “Garden Art”. After the lunch President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge.

VS Band Soup Supper Friday, Jan. 18

The annual Vinton-Shellsburg High School Band Soup Supper will take place Friday, Jan. 18, from 5-7 p.m. The menu includes chili and chicken noodle soup, milk and desserts. Cost is $6, and free for children 5 and under. The event takes place before the Vikings basketball game vs. Clear Creek Amana. 

Tractorcade to wind through Vinton, Benton County, June 10

Hooks and Needles group to meet every Tuesday

Hooks and Needles meets every Tuesday from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Windsor Manor Activity Room. Anyone is wlecome to come and do needlework. If you wish to learn to knit, crochet, tat, or whatever - come and join us!

'Lucelle's Legacy:' Friends of CP Library continue quilt show planning

  At its regular meeting Jan. 3, 2013, the Center Point Friends of the Library put the final touches on plans for a second quilt show/fabric and needlework book sale. The event to raise money for the Public Library will be from 9 to 2 in the Library basement on Saturday, Jan. 26. The group voted to call it “Friends Fab Five Sale because five types of donated items--fabric, needlework kits, notions, yarn and books on quilting and needlework-- will be sold.
