Bethlehem Lutheran Church Celebrates 100 years
Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1206 C Avenue in Vinton, Iowa, was originally located in rural Benton County southwest of Vinton. It was named “The Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Bethlehem Congregation.” The name was officially changed in 1956, but for decades after the congregation was still known in the community as “the Swedish Lutheran Church.

The Benton County Historical Society is pleased announce that in conjunction with the Chicago & North Western Historical Society roundtrip rail excursion from Waterloo-Vinton on June 8, 2013, the three Historical Society’s properties will be open to the public. The Ray House, the Horridge House and Depot will be open from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, June 8th.
CP FRIENDS OF LIBRARY BOOK BARGAINS COME EARLY THIS YEAR
With excellent timing for snapping up bargain beach books and porch swing books and “Mom, I’m bored” books the annual Center Point Friends of the Library Used Book Sale starts Saturday, June 1.
At its May meeting Friends finalized the book sale hours: Saturday June 1, from 9 to 3; Monday and Tuesday June 3 and 4, during Library hours; (Library closed beginning Wednesday June 5) Thursday and Friday June 6 and 7 during the Pork Days celebration, from 4 to 8; and Saturday June 8, from 9 to 3, an all-you-can-carry for $5 sale.
Benton County Relay for Life set for June 7
Benton County residents have the opportunity to help the American Cancer Society continue its 100-year fight against cancer by
getting involved with the Relay For Life at the Vinton-Shellsburg High
School Track, Vinton, on Friday, June 7, beginning at 6 p.m.
If you are a survivor, come and join fellow survivors in the celebration lap at 7 p.

VS Music concerts: Choir tonight, band Wednesday
Tonight, at 7 p.m., is the 6-12 Choral Department Concert at the MS Gymnasium. This will be the final concert here at V/S for Mr. Mohlis.
Wednesday Night at 7 P.M. is the annual VSHS 6-12 BAND EXTRAVAGANZA CONCERT. It will feature all of the bands in the district (6th, 7th, 8th, and 9-12th). We will also be recognizing our seniors band students and 9-11 band students with the annual awards.

Vinton Garden Club Plant and Bake Sale today 5:00p.m. to 6:30p.m. at the Benton County Fair Grounds, open class building, S 2nd Ave, Vinton.
The tables are full of plants and baked goods. Come early and take your time members will be there to help you answer questions. Several fern peonies to buy.
