SWEET (corn) Fundraiser last day!

Blessed Hope would like to thank the community for their support is the sweet corn fundraiser.  The Blessed Hope Missions group, will be offering their last round of sweet corn TODAY at Hummel's Park, across from McDowells. They will be starting Thursday morning around 9:00 a.m. Great ears, great deal, $4.00/bakers dozen! Proceeds will go toward various mission projects of the Blessed Hope Church.

CP Historical Society plans Cemetery Walk for Aug. 25

The Center Point Historical Society's third annual Cemetery Walk, will take place Aug. 25, beginning at 4 p.m.,  at the Center Point Cemetery. Admission--$6. In case of rain, it will be at the Depot Museum with projected photos of grave sites. Questions—849-1792.

Field day set for Aug. 28 near Nashua

ISU Extension Specialists emphasize crop production and management of a late maturing crop during the Annual Fall Field Day at the ISU Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Nashua. The program runs from 1:00 to 4:30 PM on Wednesday August 28. Five speakers will be featured: (1) Ken Pecinovsky, ISU Research Farm Superintendent will briefly review the 2013 seasonal weather and trials on the research farm.

VS alumni softball game set for Friday evening; 20 former Vikettes to play

Vinton-Shellsburg assistant softballl coach Emily Grimm says nearly 20 players have signed up to play in the first-ever Vinton-Shellsburg alumni softball game. The event takes place this Friday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m., at the VS softball field, behind Tilford Elementary. There will be a $5 gate fee for adults ($3 for students). All money raised will support the V-S softball program.

Children Helping Children: Lemonade Stand, Wed. August 7 from 10-11:30

Olivia Spencer There will be a lemonade stand at Joe and Jill Johnson's house (601 W. 18th St.) on WEDNESDAY, August 7th from 10:00-11:30.   Children will be selling lemonade and treats, with all proceeds going towards the American Heart Association in honor of Olivia Spencer.  Olivia's friends are joining together to raise money to help their friend.

PEO Chapter MZ to meet August 12

PEO Chapter MZ will meet Mon., August 12, at 1:30 P.M. at the home of Jackie Schoettmer assisted by Pat DeKlotz.  Please note change of meeting place. The program will be given by Bonnie Rohlena. Don't forget to bring your favorite pin.

Evergreen Cemetery to host Flea Market/Garage Sale

Evergreen Cemetery will be holding a Flea Market/Garage Sale during the Firemen's Convention Sept. 6&7. If you would like to participate, you may setup on the 5th. Anyone wanting to participate please call Sue at 319-472-3731.

Sweet (corn) fundraiser to support Missions work

Blessed Hope Missions group will be selling FRESH sweet corn on Monday, August 5th at approximately 9:00 A.M.     We will be located at the Hummel Park across from McDowell's and diagonally from the Public Library.  $4.00 will buy a baker's dozen!!    As always....all proceeds will go toward mission work.

Second Annual Flaughless 5K set for Sept. 21, at Riverside Park

The First Annual Flaughless 5K race, in honor of Vinton native Dan Flaugh, raised $10,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.  The second annual 5K run/walk takes place Saturday, Sept. 21.  Dan Flaugh, a 2004 graduate of Vinton-Shellsburg, was a SPC E4, Calvary Scout in the United States Army and served his country on the front line as a Re-Con Scout of Bush's Surge on Baghdad, Iraq.
