Horridge House to be open Sunday
The Horridge House, located at 612 First Ave., will be open Sunday November 24 from 11:30 to 3:00. Please join us and see our progress since the Wind Storm! Refreshments will be served. Benton County Historical Society
4th Annual Shellsburg Country Christmas Walk set for Nov. 30
The 4th Annual Country Christmas Walk takes place November 30, from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
in Shelllsburg.
More than 25 crafters/vendors will be set up in four locations; American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Divine Decadents Candy and Treasures Boutique. Also planned are activities at the Library. Santa's Mail Box will be at the Legion.
Pet photos with Santa available Nov. 24, Dec. 7
FOTSI is offering Santa photo sessions for kids of all ages (2 legged or 4-legged) and their pets from noon to 4 p.m. this Sunday, Nov. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 7, at the downtown office at 211 West 4th Street.
Cost is $5 for a 4 x 6 inch picture.
All proceeds go directly back to the animals in our care.
Conference Focuses on Midwestern Beef Advantages
Midwestern farmers are continually challenged by the need to feed a growing world while protecting and conserving our natural resources. However, the Midwest has an advantage compared to other regions of the United States due to our good soils, adequate rainfall, and intensive animal production systems. Livestock manure not only provides nutrients for crop production, but also helps to improve soil quality.

Amana gardening author to visit library Thursday
Lawrence L. Rettig's new book, "Gardening the Amana Way," shares lessons he has learned from his years of experience in growing a variety of plants and flowers in eastern Iowa.
Rettig will visit the Vinton Public Library at 1:30 p.m.Thursday, Nov. 14, to discuss and sign his book.

VS bowling 9-pin fund-raiser set for Nov. 16

VS public speaking class invites public to library presentations
Vinton-Shellsburg's Public Speaking class will be presenting their Persuasive Speeches at the Vinton Public Library on November 8th and 11th from 2:20 p.m. to 3 p.m. These presentations will take place in the downstairs young adult reading section.
The Public is invited to attend these public presentations and learn about the many topics of interest to the students and the community.
Garrison First Responders to hold dinner/auction/benfit THIS Saturday!
The Garrison First Responders will hold their annual dinner/live auction benefit Saturday, November 9th, at the Garrison Emergency Services Building. Doors will open at 4:30pm with serving of the meal to begin at 5:00pm. The meal includes a choice of Beef & noodles or Chicken & noodles, potatoes, vegetables, salad bar, and dessert. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children (12 & under).
Vinton Events planned for November
November 21st - Vinton's Lighted Parade
This is our annual tree lighting and visit from Santa. The winners of the VPRD coloring contest will be riding with Santa on the firetruck during the Lighted Parade hosted by our local Veteran organizations. It is a great opportunity to get your name in lights and promote your business or organization in a fun way during the Christmas season.
