New food safety rules in place: Extension offers 'ServSafe' training

Restaurants, grocery stores, and other food establishments operating in Iowa will be subject to updated food safety standards effective January 1, 2014, under rules recently adopted by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA). “The updated rules focus on making Iowa’s food regulations consistent with current scientific evidence and preventing foodborne illness.

VU, Ingalls Society invite members to After Hours at IBSSS, Jan 10

Friday, January 10th, 2014, Vinton Unlimited invites you to bring a friend and join us at the Iowa Braille & Sight Saving School. This will be a unique glimpse of one of Iowa's most historic places AND people! The Mary Ingalls Society has been hard at work, practicing a short 20 minute skit depicting what Mary Ingalls' class reunion might look like 30 years after graduating.

Vikettes plan Pink Night game Jan. 28; shirts available to order

The annual Vinton-Shellsburg girls basketball Pink Night will take place Tuesday, Jan. 28. The event will honor area breast cancer survivors and help raise funds for the Gifts of Hope mammography fund.  T-shirts can be ordered through Jan. 21. Click HERE for an order form.

Businesses invited to sign up for VU Mini-Masters

February 13th through the 15th is our Annual Mini-Masters Golf Tournament around Vinton.  Businesses are encouraged to host a hole and the general public is encouraged to play!   If you're a business, what we need from you is a "Yes" or "No."  Are you planning on participating by hosting a mini-golf hole at your business this year?  Let us know by January 10th, so we can start getting the word out and the scorecards created.

Kirkwood rep to discuss college credit opportunities at VSHS, Jan. 6

Eight teams preparing for VS alumni basketball event Dec. 21

Eight teams have signed up for the first-ever Vinton-Shellsburg alumni men's basketball event, which begins at noon this Saturday, Dec. 21. Former players from 1985 through 2012 are planning to compete. The eight teams' coaches are: Matt Sima/Ross Timmermans, Jake Fish, AJ Wygle, Brody Beatty, Jim Womochil, Scott Meier, Adam Fish and Ryan Davis.
