Mt. Auburn Cemetery---New site for Wreaths Across America
The Mt. Auburn Cemetery has been accepted into the Wreaths Across America Organization's program to honor fallen Veterans. Wreaths Across America started in 1992 when a wreath company in the state of Maine had a surplus of handmade wreaths for the Christmas season. The owner of the company called his state senator to see what options were available for the wreaths instead of disposing them.
UAVs in crop scouting among topics for Field day, Sept. 3
NASHUA – The ISU Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm has specialists covering topics from the emerging technology of using UAV’s in crop production, to crop diseases, nutrient management, and grain marketing going into the 2014 harvest. Please plan to attend this educational event on Wednesday September 3 from 1:00 to 4:30 PM.
The program starts in the Borlaug Learning Center at 1:00 PM with Ken Pecinovsky, ISU Research Farm Superintendent to briefly review the 2014 seasonal weather and trials on the farm.
Iowa Grazing Workshops with Jim Gerrish set for August
CHARITON, Iowa -- A series of five workshops featuring grazing consultant Jim Gerrish will be held in different locations across Iowa August 18-22. Primary organizer Joe Sellers said each session includes classroom discussions and pasture walks at local farms, with Gerrish as the featured speaker.
“Topics include maintaining plant diversity to increase production and environmental benefits, using annual and perennial forage crops in your grazing system, and reducing cow costs with extended grazing,” he said.
Mock Food Safety Audit Workshop set for Aug. 26
Specialty crop growers interested in food safety certification and risk management for their farms should plan to attend a Mock GAP Audit Workshop Aug. 26, 1-4 p.m. at Feed Iowa First packinghouse, 1506 10th St SE, Cedar Rapids.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting the three-hour workshop to provide growers with a better understanding of the auditing process for GAP -- Good Agricultural Practices -- certification.

Harvest Christian Youth to hold car wash fundraiser for community
Harvest Christian Youth Group will hold a car wash this Saturday at Farmer's Bank, to raise money for our community.
The car wash will begin at 9 am and run until 3 pm.
There will also be bake goods for sale as well.
