Military Career Fair set for Sept. 11, in Marshalltown

A career fair will be held in Marshalltown on Sept 11 from 12:30-4:00 PM at the Marshalltown Community College Activities Center, 3700 S. Center St in Marshalltown. Over 40 employers will be present and ready to do on the spot job interviews.with interested veterans and military service members. Vinton Women's Club plans teacher reception, Sept. 11

The Vinton Womens Club welcomes new teachers, along with all current Vinton-Shellsburg teachers, and the community, to the annual reception, which takes place Thursday Sept 11,2014, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Held at Ray House 912 1st Ave, Vinton. All Teachers and the public are invited.

Better Tomorrows Board to meet Sept. 3

The Better Tomorrows Board will be meeting on September 3rd at the Tama County Extension Office at 12:00 p.m. Topics of discussion will be Funding Sub-committee Recommendations; By-Laws; Program Reports; Community Plan; Policies & Procedures; Annual Report; Executive Summary; Co-Director Reports and the Financial Report. CP Historical Society to change meeting night to Thursday

The Center Point Historical Society was begun in 1975 as a Bicentennial project. The Society has historically met on the last Tuesday of the month. No more. At its—Tuesday—August 26 meeting the group voted to change meeting nights to the last Thursday of the month, beginning Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014. Because the Society now proudly counts a mayor and a city councilman among its members it wanted a night not conflicting with city council meetings.

Fall Arts Festival to raise money for Garrison Library

Vinton Guild Of Fine Arts is getting ready for the Benton County Fall Arts Festival. This art festival will be located at the new Nature Center just West of the Rodgers Lake County Park located just north of Vinton at 5718 – 20th Ave. Dr. The Festival will be open to the public 9am to 4pm September 13th.

Boomfest to include dozens of vendors, cowboy act, steel drums

Cowboy Randy will bring his rope and music routine to Vinton Boomfest. Vinton Boomfest takes place in just two days, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Vinton Entertainment includes Cowboy Randy and a U of I steel drum band, as well as inflatable games for the kids to enjoy.  See the complete schedule HERE.

Bring the Noise 5K set for Saturday

The annual Vinton Kiwanis Club 'Bring the Noise' 5K race will take place Saturday, Aug. 30. The event takes place the morning of the annual Boomtown fireworks event. All runners and walkers are invited to participate. Click HERE for details and to register on-line.

Party in the Park II to include Spazmatics, fireworks this Sunday, August 24

Rain or shine, the Spazmatics will sing in Vinton on Sunday night. The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is happy to announce that the Spazmatics will be performing after all on Sunday, August 24th.  The rain out portion of Party in the Park will be completed on that evening with a few adjustments.  The Spazmatics will provide some great entertainment for all ages and will be followed by the world class and award winning Bar Y Pyros.

Safety Day Camp to offer students variety of lessons Sept. 20

A safety day camp for any Benton County student in 4th, 5th and 6th grade is being planned for Saturday, September 20, 2014. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton. The Benton County Extension Service in conjunction with Progressive Agriculture, Benton County Farm Bureau, Vinton-Shellsburg FFA, Belle Plaine FFA, Benton Community FFA, Unity Point Clinic (Vinton & Shellsburg Family Practice), and Benton County beef, pork and dairy commodity groups are sponsoring the event.
