Pack 47 Scouts hope to start to tradition with Cake Auction

Along with the many thing Cub Scouts are famous for for -- Pinewood Derby, Scouting for Food, popcorn sales, working with veterans on patriotism -- the Pack 47 Cub Scouts are hoping to start a new tradition this year. The first-ever and first annual Pack 47 Cake Auction is set for Saturday, Nov.

Trick or Treating Schedule

Vinton has set official "Trick or Treat" hours for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 31st. MOPS/Moms Next will kick things off at 4:30 p.m. with a Trunk or Treat in the Blessed Hope Church parking lot. Wesley United Methodist Church, 516 2nd Ave,will also hold Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, October 31 from 5-7 p.m. It will be held in the alley behind the church.

VS Public Speaking class invites area residents to hear presentations

The Vinton-Shellsburg High School Public Speaking students and teacher Eric Upmeyer are again inviting area residents to hear the students' presentations of persuasive speeches. From Monday to Friday this week, students till take turns sharing their views on a variety of topics. It begins today at 10:15 a.m. at City Hall. The students will speak at 10:15 Tuesday at the Vinton library, and then again at the same time on Wednesday and Thursday.

Appreciation Reception for Pastors Bob and Carol Gaston

The public is invited Sunday, October 29th, 2017 from 12-2 pm Harvest Christian Fellowship Church 1201 C Avenue, Vinton Pastors Bob and Carol have given 5 years of loving ministry to the congregation at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, in Vinton. Their last Sunday will be October 29th, 2017. During this time, Pastor Bob also brought the Salvation Army services to Benton County including the ringing of the bell for the Red Kettle campaign.

Post 57 Legion, Scouts plan flag disposal service, Oct. 25

Weather permitting, the Vinton American Legion, 105 North R Ave, and the local Boy Scouts will be conducting a Flag Disposal Ceremony, Wednesday October 25, at 7 pm. The public is welcome to attend. If you have a flag, that is faded or torn, there is a drop off can outside of the Legion's front door.

Pink Heals: Fire truck to honor all disease survivors with Saturday stop in Vinton

The Vinton Fire Department, working with Pink Heals, has arranged for the famous pink fire truck that carries the signatures of countless people who have survived a variety of illnesses, to bring that truck to Vinton tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 21). The truck will be in Vinton from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Although the vehicles in the Pink Heals fleet are bubble-gum pink in color, the organization says their work is about helping everyone, not only cancer survivors.

Vinton's American Legion to hold final Tenderloin Dinner of the year

The Vinton American Legion, 105 North R Ave, will be holding a tenderloin dinnersfor $8.00, Thursday, October 26 from 5 to 7 pm. Each dinner consists of, a6 oz Tenderloin on a Kaiser Bun with French Fries, Coleslaw and a Dessert. Bring the family out to support your local veterans! Due to the Holidays, we will not be having a Tenderloin dinner, in November or December.
