CP FRIENDS OF LIBRARY UNDERWEAR DRIVE UNDERWAY

You have been able to donate hats, mittens and socks to warm the hearts and other parts of people who need them this winter at the giving trees at the Center Point public library. Now Friends of the Library is sponsoring a “Captain Underpants” Giving Tree to fill the under looked need for underwear. The theme is based on the Dav Pilkey “Captain Underpants” kids’ book series begun in 1997.

Annual Band Soup Supper this Friday, January 25

The Annual Band Soup Supper Fundraiser will be held this Friday, January 25, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Commons at the High School. The boys will be playing Clear Creek Amana that evening, so stop in before the game! Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the door.

Brush and Slush or ages 1st-5th Grade, Saturday Feb. 10

Enjoy a cold slushie or two as you paint your next art masterpiece! Participants will get creative as they learn about and utilize a variety of paint mediums on a quality 11x14 canvas. Bring it home, hang it up, impress everyone. Beginners welcome! Grades: 1st - 5th Date: Saturday, February 10 The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department offers a wide variety of activities and events for the adult population within our community that have mental and/or physical disabilities.

Benton County Historical Society to host "Delve into your DNA"

Benton County Historical Society will be hosting a Presentation tomorrow, January 12 called "Delve Into Your DNA." This presentation is open to the Public for a Free Will Donation. All donations will go directly to the Benton County Historical Society.   Have you seen all the news about DNA testing and Family tree building websites? Are you curious how it all works? It's called Genetic Genealogy! And we invite you to come get a first-hand look at how to build your own family tree, find your ancestor's historical records and learn the secrets your DNA holds.

Tenderloin Night at the Legion

Your wait is almost over! The Vinton American Legion will resume its Tenderloin Dinners on Thursday, January 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. For $8.00, you will get a 6 oz Tenderloin on a Kaiser Bun, with French Fries, Coleslaw and a Dessert. The legion is located at 105 North R Ave. in Vinton.

Garrison Cemetery Association to meet

With a change in the By-Laws of the Garrison Cemetery Association of Garrison Iowa, the annual meeting of the Shareholders of the Garrison Cemetery Association will now be held the second Monday of January. The meeting will be January 14, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the Garrison Public Library.

Blessed Hope Youth to hold Soup Supper

The Blessed Hope youth group will hold a soup supper on Sunday, January 6, at the American Legion Hall, located on R Ave., in Vinton. Soup will be served from 4-7:00 p.m. The cost is a freewill donation. Proceeds will help fund the youth activities of the church.

VS band plans spaghetti supper, Thursday

On Thursday, December 20, during the double header Girls/Boys basketball game against Williamsburg, the VS Band will serve a spaghetti dinner from 5-8 p.m. The menu will include: Salad, spaghetti, garlic bread and dessert. It’s a free will donation to help support the band members with their trip to New York City in June 2019.

Garrison United Methodist Church Announces Christmas Services

Pastor Annette K. Ruhs Kruse will be holding services at Garrison United Methodist Church over the Christmas season. The following is the Christmas service schedule.   December 23 – 8:15 a.m. December 24 – Christmas Eve Candlelight Service 5:30 p.m.  

Bear Creek holds Open House

The Bear Creek Church held and open house from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bear Creek Church is located next to the Bear Creek Cemetery on County Road V-71/Brandon Blacktop, about 3 1/2 miles from either south of Brandon or north of Hwy. 150. The committee in charge holds various fund raising events to preserve the church building.
