The Hoover Presidential Foundation is now accepting nominations for its annual Herbert Hoover Uncommon Public Service Awards, recognizing one member of the Iowa House of Representatives and one member of the Iowa Senate whose service to Iowans exemplifies integrity, leadership, and a commitment to the public good beyond legislative responsibilities.
Nominations are open now through February 23, 2026, and may be submitted by legislators, colleagues, constituents, and members of the public. The awards honor Iowa legislators whose actions reflect the values articulated by Herbert Hoover including service, responsibility, and uncommon leadership.
"President Hoover believed that progress is driven by individuals willing to serve with purpose and principle," said Mundi McCarty, President and CEO of the Hoover Presidential Foundation. "These awards recognize Iowa leaders who embody those ideals through their everyday work on behalf of the people they serve."
Award recipients will be announced and formally recognized during a presentation at the Iowa State Capitol on March 25, 2026, with one honoree recognized in each chamber.
The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Public Service Award draws inspiration from President Hoover's 1948 "Uncommon Man" speech, in which he noted that meaningful human progress is achieved by those who lead with conviction, humility, and a sense of duty. Since its creation, the award has highlighted legislators whose service reflects those enduring values.
