I recently read 'Making the Best of What’s Left: When We’re Too Old to Get the Chairs Reupholstered' by Judith Viorst, who many will recognize as the author of 'Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.'
Now 94, Viorst reflects on what she calls her “Final Fifth”—life from eighty to one hundred. This thoughtful nonfiction work blends memoir, essays, poetry, and shared experiences to explore aging in a deeply honest way.
She touches on themes like grief, loneliness, second chances, and the realities (and surprises) of growing older, while also encouraging us to embrace each stage of life.
Insightful, relatable, and often humorous, it’s a read full of wisdom that stays with you long after the last page.
