My pick for this month's Adventures in Bookclubbing 'Page to Screen' theme was 'While We're Young' by K. L. Walther. This book is a young adult, modern retelling of the John Hughes favorite 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off.'

Grace is ready for a little fun and decides to organize a senior skip day in Philadelphia for her and her two best friends, Isa and Ev. The hitch? Isa is gunning for a perfect attendance record in the hopes of sweetening her Harvard application, and Ev hasn't felt a part of their group since he broke up with Isa during freshman year. Will Grace's determination win out? Or will her parents discover the truth behind her 'illness'? Grace's brother James is growing more and more suspicious; will he ruin their fun?

Fans of the 80's cult classic will love this light read, full of plenty of Ferris nods: the fringe suede coat, 'Twist and Shout,' evil school principals and fancy cars. I especially like how Walther changed 'Save Ferris' to '#savinggrace.' The author has made it her own as well, with a few new story lines and twists. With the cold weather, why not have a read/watch party?!

Happy reading,

Kelly
