Review of 'Too Old For This' by Samantha Downing

The cover of this book attracted me at first, when a friend returned it to our library. When the patron told me how much she had enjoyed it, I had to have it! What an adventure!

Lottie Jones, formerly Lorena Mae Lansdale, has secrets. With a simply, unexpected knock at her front door one evening, her whole past life begins to unravel. Her caller is a youngish investigative reporter who explains that she wants to do a docuseries for her company, Reboot Productions. The subject is to be Lottie's accusation and exoneration of murder forty years before. After she was cleared of all charges, the city ponied up a large settlement, which Lottie spent on name changes, a major move, and the purchase of a large older home. She and her son, Richie, began their new life miles away.

When Plum Dixon (yep, that's her real name!) decides to make a docuseries about 'the story behind the story,' she does a dip dive into public records and finds the former Lorena Mae Lansdale, now Lottie Jones. Plum's phone messages, though received, go unanswered, so she appears at Lottie's front door. Her persistence does not go unnoticed or unpunished. Follow along as Lottie calls upon long-unused skills and proves that, although she is forty years older, she really isn't 'Too Old For This.' This book is a true keeper and I give it a 4.75/5. Goodreads rated it 3.82/5. Penguin Random House calls it 'well received as a unique and entertaining thriller.' I agree! This book is available at the Vinton Public Library, and on Libby as an ebook and audiobook. Relax and read!

Love,

Connie
